E-Mail Server Survey Results for January 2003

Here are the results for our second monthly E-Mail Server Survey taken during the month of January, 2003. The process used to obtain the results was:

  2. Connect (TCP) to the open port, record banner
  3. Send "EHLO my.host.name", record EHLO response
  4. Send "HELP", record HELP response
  5. send "QUIT"
  6. Using Nmap, attempt to derive operating system guess and uptime data.
  7. Load the results into a SQL database for data analysis.
This month's sample size was 30,000 open SMTP ports.
